DonahueFavret Contractors was chosen by Greyfern, Inc. to construct a 17,000
square foot building of leaseable professional office space with 1,000 square
feet of common area in Mandeville, Louisiana. The award-winning project designed
by Architect Harry Baker Smith contained many special features. The structure
is raised off the ground to facilitate satisfying the needs of future tenants
by allowing easy electrical and mechanical roughin. The building is highlighted
by the use of reflective glass, mirroring the lush greenery and offering
an illusion of invisibility. Plaster surrounds the glass exterior and the
building is enclosed with a metal roof. The air conditioning system is a
chilled water closed loop supplemented by electric heat strips controlled
directly by the thermostats. A raised center courtyard sets off the building
nicely and adds to its contemporary yet environmental appeal. The project
was completed in 180 days and garnered the Winner of Building Design Award
by the American Building Company.
