Once the location of an undeveloped swamp, today East Jefferson General Hospital has 482 beds, nearly 800 physicians on staff, more than 2,300 team members and over 500 volunteers. It is a service district hospital governed by a 10-member volunteer Board of Directors. The hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.

DonahueFavret Contractors was called upon for the multi-phased task of renovations for EJGH, designed by Blitch/Krebbs and Associates Architects. The construction site spread throughout the campus of this medical facility as many different stages of work progressed. The existing sixth and seventh floor of the hospital were totally sprinkled. A therapy unit was created on the seventh floor, which contained separate areas for hydrotherapy, modality, EEG work, Radio Frequency Shielding and a gymnasium. A two story office was also constructed which featured a heliport connected by a bridge directly to a newly constructed elevator tower. Finally, the entire surgery area was renovated and added onto while the hospital was kept in safe and constant operation.

This was in keeping with East Jefferson General Hospital’s highest mission: providing care and comfort. The hospital’s staff strives to ensure that all who come through its doors – patients, visitors, team members and others – have a positive, satisfying experience. The $ 3,700,000 project, completed successfully and without incident during full operations, was accomplished in 365 days.
