Located in the heart of the French Quarter, the Holiday Inn
French Quarter Hotel offers spacious rooms with Executive
King Size accommodations, many with a view of the Mississippi
River. DonahueFavret Contractors was chosen to add 98 rooms
to the 18 story hotel. The project began at the 9th floor
of the hotel parking garage, where 26 rooms were added and
two additional stories, the 19th and 20th floors, were added
to the existing building with 36 rooms each, thereby gaining
72 more rooms.
The staging restraints required that DFC and Architect John
Campo design an exterior skin that would be durable and attractive
but would also be easily installed over 200 feet in the air,
teeming below with busy traffic and pedestrians. The solution
was a prefabricated panel, constructed of metal studs and
EIFS. A tower crane was erected at the level of the proposed
20th floor of the building to handle all materials. It was
erected on steel beams that spanned the open air space between
the wings of the existing hotel building. Through creative
scheduling and project management, DFC was able to deliver
the first 26 rooms at the ninth floor six months early. The
balance of the rooms was completed 45 days prior to contract
time with no requests for extensions. The project covered
52,000 square feet.
