West Bank Regional Library offers a broad range of circulating and reference
materials for adults, young adults and children. Library patrons of all ages
will find a wide variety of books, magazines, newspapers and audiovisual
items to suit every need. A regional library differs from other library branches
in size, circulation and the collection it offers. Regional libraries were
begun to bring reference and periodical materials to the regional areas that
were previously only available at the Main Library.
Jefferson Parish contracted DonahueFavret to construct this
regional facility. The handsome structure is a clerestory
steel frame with structural metal stud backup to a masonry
veneer. Lower walls are constructed of aluminum and glass
store front and the roof is a standing seam metal roof. The
foundation is piled supported reinforced concrete. The project
included a 5,000 square foot maintenance building and 30,000
square feet of reinforced concrete paving. The project was
completed in 360 days, and West Bank residents were welcome
to choose from over 125 magazines and journals, utilize its
reference collection, take advantage of reading and browsing
areas, or use its meeting room for club meetings.
