Circuit City is the nation's largest retailer of brand-name
consumer electronics. In the 80' and 90's, the superstore
concept planted the seed for explosive growth, positioning
Circuit City for continued geographic expansion.
DonahueFavret Contractors has played a substantial role in
this expansion, by being chosen as contractor for Louisiana
and the surrounding states. Twelve locations were awarded
to DFC after Circuit City was exceedingly pleased with
their outstanding performance on the first store. Their
stringent and demanding schedule was completed smoothly
on time by DFC with skilled craftsmanship. The locations
covered areas in Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi.
Although Circuit City Stores have similar storefronts, exterior
construction and interior buildouts differed according to
location needs. In Texas and several sites in Louisiana,
the buildings consisted of reinforced masonry with steel
frames and single ply membrane roofs. The Lafayette store
consisted of a structural steel frame with bar joists and
metal deck, ballasted membrane roof, reinforced masonry walls
with a soil supported concrete foundation and truck well.
Other locations such as New Orleans and Marrero consisted
of reinforced concrete supported by over 1,000 timber piles.
Many included warehouse and car stereo installation areas
as well as depressed loading docks. Gulfport and Tupelo were
partially inline microstores with exterior walls of metal
studs and EIFS.
The interiors in Baton Rouge, Gulfport and Tupelo were high
tech with Nora Tile Raceways. In Metairie, the Circuit City
Express project consisted of a tenant buildout in an existing
space. In Beaumont, over 100,000 linear feet of cable had
to be pulled for special systems. All projects were completed
successfully on time.
